Hi! My name is Ruth, I am a Master's student at the University of Bristol, studying Neuroscience and Psychology. I have years of experience working with young people, from summer schools to volunteering.

In order to get the most out of these sessions, i will recommend having an introductory session with the student where we get to know each other and the student informs me of problem areas of a subject. This way I can structure the sessions to most suit the individuals needs and we can see improvements faster! For example, if a student is struggling to grasp the long mark answers e.g. 16 markers, i can go through the specific marking criteria areas with them and we can perform practice questions.

I achieved an A* in Psychology, A in Biology and an A in English at A-level and have averaged a first/2:1 throughout my degree. The biggest piece of advice I can give to obtain good grades is practice, read resources and think critically which we will engage with during my lessons. I believe tutoring sessions should be student led, hence why students should raise areas of concern with me during these sessions so we make efficient use of the time. If there was a muddy area during class this week that they are confused about, bring it to me in our sessions and we can break it down in a one-to-one manner.
