I have a PhD in history and for two years have worked for a university, teaching elements of the taught skills of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), focussing on research skills from the start of the process (choosing a topic, a question, preliminary research) through to completion (building an argument, writing skills, presentation skills). Much of the tutoring involved one to one time with students.
Before this, during my studies, I also taught undergraduate history and delivered outreach sessions to students of a variety of ages and abilities, so I am adept at altering my delivery to best suit you, your needs as a student and the level you are working at. Additionally, I taught at an international humanities summer school for three years.
I'm very happy to support students in any of the above as one-off or ongoing sessions.
I prefer to respond to your needs and in our first session would chat about how you see yourself as a learner and what you think you respond best too. My preference is always towards discussion-based learning and I firmly believe that if you can explain something well, it deepens your understanding and memory of it.
Even at A-level, a more discursive, seminar-like format works best for me, though I am very happy to adapt to your needs if you prefer a top down approach. Get in touch!
