My format's very simple. In the 1st session, I'll gain a simple understanding by assessing where your strengths and weaknesses lie. This is vital, as it tells me what we need to spend more time working on. When it comes to content, you should not focus as much on what you are confident on but what you tend to struggle on instead. This does not mean you ignore the content you're already strong with, but you should come back to it after a prolonged period. This is more beneficial for your long-term memory and overall progress in the end.
Before every session, I will ask what you topics in the curriculum you find difficult and would like to work on and we will mainly work on these in the plus any other questions you may have about any other topic. In the end, conquering these topics will ensure your prepared to reach your ultimate goal, which is performing to your maximum potential. I use different techniques for different pupils.
The best proven way of putting learning to the test is through practice questions and past papers, which will be a recurring theme of our sessions. Furthermore, some interactive quizzes can sometimes be useful and make work fun. Flashcards are also another method students prefer, however I can provide great tips on how to maximise their efficiency.
My first tutoring/mentoring experience was during my time in sixth form, where I was tutoring a pupil for reading. I tutored the same pupil for almost almost 18 months and there was a clear difference in his before and after - his after being more confident and competent!
