I have experience of teaching in two UK schools as part of my PGCE as well as one-year teaching English as a foreign language to the equivalent to KS1/2 students and two years teaching secondary school science in Vietnam. I also had a role that had me creating classroom resources to support non-specialist teach science effectively.
I believe that providing students with a caring, respectful and supportive learning environment is crucial to their progress. Teaching is not just about the subject; it is also about the skill set that the students can use when they go out to the world in the 21st century. Before my teacher training in the UK, I was a qualified Chemistry teacher in Vietnam. I spent 2 years teaching chemistry and science which covered a vast majority of topics in science subjects and different year groups. I also implemented different teaching techniques such as 5Es, application of technology, and collaborative learning activities into my teaching practice which promote curiosity and critical thinking in my lessons. Teaching makes up a big part of me. Experiencing different teaching culture allowed me to adapt quickly to the content, develop further in different aspects of teaching, and be ready for any challenges. I value creativity and I always take the chance to integrate different teaching techniques, to try new things, and evaluate what works and what does not with my classes which has proven the effectiveness during my last placement school. Planning is a definite strength of mine which was reflected on my teaching resources, and materials in different forms including animation videos, posters, and other media and my resources will be used by the department in the future.
I have excelled on the course evidenced by the feedback provided from formal observations and review points. I always make sure to focus on the improvements whilst cementing the positives in my teaching practice. I have experience teaching KS3, KS4 and A-Level whilst also fulfilling wider responsibilities such as acting in the role of a form tutor, leading the science club and developing positive relationships with parents.
My goal is to make science accessible for everyone and integrate cross-curriculum content in science subjects. This in an ongoing project which I hope to continue to develop in my future schools
