I have taught college History for 16 years. I am currently a professor at a liberal arts and sciences university in California, where the emphasis is on student learning. Working in this environment, I have developed considerable skills in, as well as love for, teaching. My pedagogical philosophy in founded on engaging my students with material that they can relate to and that interests them. This might include using primary sources like personal narratives from historical figures, film clips, or games. For example, when teaching students about the history of the Indian Ocean basin, I use a game that I created that simulates the patterns of exchange in the trade network of the pre-modern period. I also believe that the personal relationship between teacher (or tutor) and student is one of the most important aspects of successful student learning. In every class I teach, I require individual conferences with students. My students do best when I am able to get to know them personally, and meet them where they are when it comes to reading and writing skills. I am qualified to tutor students in U.S., European, and World History, as well as global studies, world religions, and international relations. I look forward to working with you!
