I have tutored family members for English before for SATS and GCSEs they have received very high scores and found my way of remembering exam technique very helpful.
I also ensure I am keeping the lessons fun and inclusive so even if English is a subject of struggle for the kids they do not hate it and actually come to find a love for it. For the younger children who are just learning the key basics of english, repetition is key but this can also be boring, which is why it is important to have a variety of teaching in the lessons to ensure focus is kept up and their confidence is high. Handwriting is also a skill I can focus on- if need be.
The lessons would be a mix of studying technique, deciphering skills and writing skills as well as independent writing (which will be guided when needed) to build up their confidence. I sometimes use presentations but find that it is more helpful for me to have conversational lessons with whiteboards and pens which can ensure focus and inclusion of the kids in the lesson rather than relying on long periods of listening time.
In conjunction to my love of English I am a part time lifeguard and a volunteer at my local hospice. I have experience in babysitting ages 1-15 and overall enjoy spending time with children and teaching them new and exciting skills that I was once so excited to learn about too. I remember the teachers that taught me English when I was 7/8 and I remember discovering my love for it because of them; I hope that I too can become that source of inspiration for some.
