8 years as a teacher. Experienced with GCSE, university work, primary education and will return to working with A Level students in the new academic term. Focus is on improving the skills of a student so as they have the best chance of success. With my approach, I am to create a welcoming environment where the students feel secure in the knowledge that I will work to help them achieve their academic potential.
Having worked across London, both within Primary and Secondary schools, I know how challenging it can be for students in the post covid era. That’s why I prefer to begin with the basics and work up more challenging tasks, allowing students to work at a pace that works best for them.
However, I also understand that some students need more immediate help. That’s when I like to refocus our energies on the exams themselves. In these cases, I first have the students look at past exam papers, and most importantly, the feedback from examiners. By analysing the comments and examples from top marked papers, we can produce a blue print that my students can use to help inspire their own work, and to aspire to adapting their exams to meet the specifications expected when they come to sit their papers. I then like to review the student’s work with them, identifying where they went well, and what areas they need to up level and change so as they’re not losing easy makes unnecessarily.
