I am a PhD student in English Literature with a specialism in Victorian Studies. I achieved a First in my undergraduate degree from King's College London and a Distinction in my Master's degree from Royal Holloway and have been tutoring GCSE and A Level English students since my undergraduate degree.

My ethos for teaching is to work collaboratively with a student to address problem areas and build confidence. This involves taking the time to listen to concerns and setbacks and tailor my lessons appropriately. I believe that building a personal relationship is the key to growing confidence and success.

After an initial assessment of these problems, the lessons will follow a structure of attempting an exam or essay question together. We will break the question down methodically and go through every step of the process. I will ask the student to think outside of the box, encouraging their creativity, and ask them to talk me through their reasoning. By the end of each session, we will have practiced an approach to tackling the question head-on with confidence and self-assurance.

Sometimes, to take a break from exam prep (as it isn't all life is about!), we can have more discursive discussions about literature that may resemble university-style teaching. This would especially benefit those students who are planning to pursue English Literature at degree level.

I have tutored 3 A Level English Literature students, all of whom achieved a grade higher than their initial predicted grade when we began working together. I have also tutored GCSE English Literature and English Language.
