I assess students to see what level they are at, so that lessons can be tailored to ability level. For beginners, it's important to learn basic chords and develop strumming technique. From there we can work on more interesting ideas, and learn to play in a more melodic way. This ties in with learning scale exercises, but always in a way that is focused on being able to apply this in a musical way.

I tie music theory content into practical learning to ensure students develop an understanding of their instrument, whilst having fun. I provide students with worksheets, consisting of; chord diagrams, guitar tablature and music theory concepts. All of which are clear and easy to follow.

I'm friendly and encouraging, and will plan lessons to help students improve their weaknesses. I'm attentive to students' technique and will demonstrate easier alternatives to make their playing feel more natural. I take an interest in what music students enjoy and playing styles that they would like to replicate, so that they can learn music that interests them.

I have experience of teaching Music Performance at sixth form level (16-19). During this placement I provided one-to-one guitar lessons, as well as teaching theory and practical lessons with multiple classes. I have been playing Guitar for 12 years, in which time I have also learned to play Bass and Drums. I have been playing in gigging bands consistently over the past 10 years, so can also give advice on starting a band and getting gigs.
