Lead in: (5 min)
- Split class into 10 groups of 6 and assign a fun name to each and assign one member to be the spokesperson for the group
- let students know briefly what objectives we will cover. By the end of the lesson, we will be able to structure an opinion on whatever topic my group has been assigned
- We all have opinions about many different things, what sports you might like, what music you might dislike, whether you think coffee tastes ok (not great but not awful) we all have mixed opinions and it’s important to express your opinions
- Explain the most basic form of expression (Thumbs up Thumbs down)

Presentation: (15 min)
- Show students Football team logo with a thumbs up and smile then ask students thumbs up or thumbs down
- Show students a picture of a burger and elicit a thumbs up or down motion then explain after why I do not like burgers
- Explain how opinions can be both sided: (For and against)
- ‘Playing football can be very tiring, but good for fitness’
- ‘Burgers are very messy to eat but some people think they’re delicious’
- By putting openers at the start of your opinion, this can structure your sentence better for example:

I/ we believe that… Football is great
I/ We agree that…. Burgers are quite unhealthy but are also delicious
I/ we don’t think that… football is fun to watch, as the matches are too long
I/ we would say that… burgers are quite expensive too
I suppose that….
In my/ our opinion…..

Practice: (15 min)
- Each group – 1 picture.
- Example: skydiving, Reading, Food, Cars, Phones, Clothing
- Students need to come up with an opinion together starting with what we have learned for their topic and state the reasoning for their group’s choice through their designated spokesperson
- Now we are understanding how to engage in a conversion through opinions
- Discuss each groups answers briefly
- Moving onto a mixed opinion
- We believe that… skydiving is thrilling…but on the other hand it may be dangerous

Production: (20 min)

- Now it’s the class’s turn to come up with their own opinions regarding a country of their choice and give and provide a group answer for and against the country they have chosen including using any of the openers we discussed beforehand
- Provide 2 examples so students understanding the activity

20 MINUTES ALLOCATED
- 5-minute discussion time group by group and correct any mistakes they may have made to round the lesson up
