I begin all my lessons by thoroughly examining the homework which I would have set the week prior. We then move onto a part of the syllabus ie. exploring a poem from a GCSE anthology or an act in a play. For the last third of the lesson we will do essay plans around that topic which I will them set for homework. For more dry topics, grammatically based ones for instance, I create quizzes and games as starters in order to stimulate students and keep them engaged. Once every few lessons, students may be asked to give a presentation on a text we have covered , perhaps a small section which interests them in order to keep the lessons exciting and interesting.
