I have experience tutoring both primary and secondary school English. With primary school children, I have previously helped with learning to read at all ages, practising spelling and learning basic grammar. I have also helped them with verbal reasoning for their 11+ exams. With secondary school students, I have helped children ages 11-14 with GCSE-style paragraphs and creative writing, as well as beginning basic analysis at a GCSE English Language paper level. With students ages 14-16, GCSE level, I have worked through their set texts with them and poetry anthologies to develop analysis and essay writing skills. I also work on the Language papers and the answer format necessary, teaching the students the correct technique and formatting necessary to achieve an A*.
I love English and have a wide knowledge of many set texts. My personal GCSE texts were 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Jekyll and Hyde' and 'An Inspector Calls' so I have specialist knowledge of these. For A Level English, I studies 'Twelfth Night', 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'Frankenstein', 'The Handmaid's Tale', and 'The Wife of Bath Prologue and Tale', and have knowledge of these texts at an A* level. I can also help with poetry anthology analysis and comparison, as I studied poetry at both A Level and GCSE.
As a current politics student, and having previously studied history at A Level, I have well-rounded knowledge in the historical and political contexts, something necessary to achieve the top grades in GCSE and A Level English, and I bring this knowledge with me when approaching texts to provide students with a wide overview.
