Hi there, my name is Kaylin.
My background is in sociology and social policy, and I hold a BA in Sociology and Psychology, an MSc in Criminology (alcohol & Drug Studies), and a PhD in Sociology and Social Policy. I also hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, and I'm an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In our first lesson, I'll identify your learning needs and learning style, any specific curriculum or programme content you want to work on, and talk through what you want to achieve through our lessons. Once we've done that, I will be able to come up with a structured plan based on the number and frequency of tutoring sessions identified.
Each session will be tailored to your needs, but some examples of lesson content might be going over certain theories or ideas and discussing how they compare and contrast to each other, applying theory to real-world examples, discussion and analysis of set readings, quizzes to check your knowledge, or an in-depth look at a specific idea or concept you might be having difficulty with. I can also support you with preparing for exams, improving your coursework assignments, or preparing for a class talk - it all depends on what your needs are.
Throughout our lessons, I'll make sure the workload isn't too much or too little and that you're being challenged in a way that helps you learn and grow. I'll make sure to give you frequent constructive feedback that you can use to improve your learning and understanding to ensure you succeed. You'll also have the opportunity to give me feedback as well so I can tailor my teaching approach to suit what's best for you.
