My lessons will take a collaborative approach to learning in which we first create a curriculum together based on your interests and needs (and my recommendations), following which we will come together each subsequent session to discuss each week's learning resources in a one-to-one or small-group setting. My specialisation is in global contemporary art history and curation, particularly as they relate to Southeast Asia and to a larger degree, the Global South. Our learning, or unlearning, will therefore take a critical decolonial position. I might sometimes assign tasks or exercises designed to help hone your analytical writing or presentation skills, or we might sometimes take our lessons outside of the classroom and into the real world of relevant exhibitions, artist talks, performances, or public programmes. Everything however is tailored to your needs, interests, and access requirements. While my approach centres holistic learning, I understand that especially for students currently enrolled in university or doing their A levels, there can be the pressure to perform according to conventional academic standards in order to achieve their goals. My role as a tutor is to support your achievement of that goal through the means that you determine most effective for yourself—for example, spending extra time on school assignments together, practising for school presentations or assessments, or other supplementary activities that would enhance your academic performance in school. I especially welcome enquiries from international students who might struggle with writing and communicating in the English language, and also warmly welcome students with learning access needs.
