I believe that learning an instrument should be both productive and enjoyable. To that end I like to spend some time finding out what each individual student's goals are, whether there is an exam they are hoping to pass, a piece they want to learn or a style they wish to emulate.
Unsure what your goals are? No worries! We will work together to find something that inspires you - maybe a favourit...
I believe that learning an instrument should be both productive and enjoyable. To that end I like to spend some time finding out what each individual student's goals are, whether there is an exam they are hoping to pass, a piece they want to learn or a style they wish to emulate.
Unsure what your goals are? No worries! We will work together to find something that inspires you - maybe a favourite piece, a musician you saw or heard who inspired you. Music should be about curiosity, exploration and enjoyment.
With 10+ years of experience, I can help you get right to the heart of your technique so that you are not practicing in bad habits and impeding your own progress. If you already play, I will evaluate your basic technique throughout our sessions and help you find more practical and efficient solutions if needed. If you are just beginning, I will help you build a strong foundation beginning with breathing which is at the heart of everything we do as wind players - and yet is often neglected, even at an advanced level. I will also strive to find you enjoyable and rewarding pieces to play even at a beginner level. Students in the past have come to me with a piece they enjoyed listening to and I have transcribed a version of that piece for them to learn - this is often the best way to develop new skills!
I respect that many people do not always have time for a regular practice routine and I believe that should not be an obstacle. We will take lessons at your own pace - my goal is to help you find the enjoyment in music and to remind you that "playing" an instrument can also mean "playing" - full stop!
