My teaching is student centred and I encourage self directed learning where possible.
My teaching style is based on Rosenshine's 10 principles of instruction.
Having worked at Sands School (democratic education in Devon, UK) my dynamic is relational and bespoke to the individual student needs.
I listen and understand how the student learns to get the best out of them. This might mean lots of writing and well presented work. However, not all students thrive through this method and so it is my belief that it is not a bout the volume of work produced but about the understanding of the topic.
I include a lot of questioning throughout my lessons to check my students understanding.
Whilst I use powerpoint regularly I do not rely on this method. Some lessons would be more discussion based. I also like to provide regular assessments. These can also be bespoke to cater to the students who have developed a fear around 'tests'.
A standard lesson -
- A short starter followed by a 5 minute discussion with the student about the days topic.
minute powerpoint presentation with ample opportunity for the student to ask questions.
- Student activity - 10 minutes
- A further 10 minutes from the presentation
- Student activity - 10 minutes
- 10 minute discussion to review what we have been learning
I can teach geography, history and RE.
