Geography teaching requires an individual with strong EQ and one who can apply his/her mind diligently in order to ensure that the learners are not disadvantaged and on the contrary, are encouraged to keep learning, irrespective of the different kinds of academic or other challenges they face. This is my element. I have, over the years, acquired extensive knowledge and skills to ensure that every learner is taught effectively and attains excellence in any space they are operating. This takes cognizance of the demands for individualised attention, intense self-esteem needs that often are the hallmark of most learners including SEND learners, as well as the expectation for integrating curriculum with world experiences.
I work independently, part of the reason I was appointed Head of Humanities Department at Uplands. I have developed strategies to enhance cooperation from my students, with commendable success. By working from a positive working environment, from a space of encouragement, support, by providing effective scaffolding activities to augment learning, I believe I have the perfect artillery to drive my students to excellence in their work.
My classroom management expertise is a result of both continuous professional development as well as experience amassed over my two decades of international teaching. I have attended British Council sponsored Critical Thinking Skills workshops, am currently enrolled for both the SEND Diploma ( Centre of Excellence UK) and Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management (a CPD Diploma from the UK as well), and I have attained Level 1 First Aid Certificate. I research a lot around best practice and always ensure that my learners experience unique learning environments occasionally in the classroom. The result of this immersion in excellence has been the consistently high pass rates attained by my learners in both IEB and Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level examinations over the last 25 years. I have also been tasked with the position of Project Leader for a Geospatial Certificate Task for IEB Geography students.
I am a very versatile team player, very flexible in carrying out my teaching activities, as well as a parent to my learners. I am highly experienced teaching, apart from Geography, other subjects including English Home Language, History, Tourism and Physical Education. I am comfortable with being malleable and can be a comfortable fit into any forward thinking organisation. I demand the best from my learners, and always strive to excel in the achievement of my team goals and organisational vision and mission.
As a soccer coach, I am a proponent of team work. I work very well with my peers, my line managers, my supervisors and above all, my learners. I always strive to create fluid relationships within my teams in order to encourage creativity, excellence as well as effective holistic growth of my team players. Once my supervisors have set out curriculum goals, I always ensure that as a results-orientated teacher, I expeditiously work towards the attainment of those goals or targets.
