I have 5 years teaching experience in the UK. Having been acting head of languages, assistant head of languages and Spanish progress leader for an academy trust. I have worked with students from Year 7 all the way up to A-level.
During my university degree, I moved to Spain to teach English for a year, where I taught private English tutoring sessions to adults, so I have experience in that field.
Growing up as a bilingual child, I enjoyed a multicultural upbringing and I consider myself lucky for having had this life-changing experience. Most of my students don’t have this luxury, with some not able to travel abroad and broaden their horizons. As a passionate language teacher and linguist, I recognise the importance of giving our students a well-rounded experience of the language, which includes history, culture, religion and lifestyle. During the last 4 years, I have strived to enhance the Spanish curriculum, along with my Head of Department, with the main purpose of achieving highly engaging lessons, where students can learn more than just a language.
As a keen linguist, I believe that students should see their language teachers involved in learning languages. For this reason, I have been striving to better my Italian knowledge (I started this at University) and shared my experience, pitfalls and gains with my KS4 students. Leading by example is the best way to get students onboard and learn that during the language journey there are difficulties and challenges that we can overcome if we show resilience and dedication.
