I try to understand what topics the students may struggle with and how and why this may be the case. I tend do my best to explain the specific thing in simple terms that suit the student. Whenever a student provides me with a specific area that is causing them to struggle, I will try my best to create a set of slides that goes over it in simple terms, explaining each keyword as we go along. I provide opportunities for the young person to ask me questions and ensure they feel comfortable to ask me throughout our session.
I do this because I remember how stressful sitting my A-Levels for Psychology Edexcel was and I really want to ensure that the young person does not have to go through that to the same extent. And if possible I would like to incite a similar interest of psychology in them which has helped me learn and understand during those times. What I found most useful is to be met in the middle by my teachers and being given an opportunity to try and explain things directly to them and be given direct criticism there and then. This reflects in how I intend to tutor students as throughout the teaching I will ask the person to explain back to me what they learnt so they can fully understand it all!
My experience is limited to explaining to my fellow classmates important concepts and talking with my teachers about psychology and what we are being taught. Despite this, I cannot wait to engage and help the young people with their learning!
