I’m a musician, postgraduate, and passionate educator accepting new in-person students in the Walsall area and new remote students from anywhere in the UK.
As a young teen I became obsessed with the guitar. Since my school only provided classical lessons, I took those whilst teaching myself to play other styles. By 16 I was performing in classical, rock and jazz concerts, and had a highly successful academic career in the meantime. My passion for educating others began with teaching guitar to classmates whilst I was still a teenager. After achieving my Masters’ Degree in Music Production, I took up educating professionally through both private tutoring and teaching community college classes in Essex. I became a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors in 2016 and achieved a Level 3 Award in Education & Training in 2019.
I've now been teaching music subjects for a decade, and English and other school subjects for 5 years. I have experience of teaching primary and secondary school children, 6th form students, university applicants, and adult learners. I teach acoustic, classical, and electric guitar across many styles and to all levels, and I've put students through classical and contemporary graded exams offered by various awarding bodies (ABRSM, Trinity, RGT/LCM). I also tutor academic music (i.e. GCSE, IB and A-level Music), composition, music appreciation, music history, music production/technology, music theory, and musicology.
Though music is my subject of greatest expertise, I’m also highly knowledgeable in English Literature. I’m adept at helping students get to grips with poetry and Shakespeare's works, especially in terms of structure, symbolism, and archaic language. As an MSc I can also tutor Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Media Studies. This has proved very useful for students who I tutored for both Media Studies and English, as much of the subject content for the former reinforces knowledge and skills present in the English GCSE curriculum. I take a learner-centric approach across all subjects, crafting materials to compliment the curriculum whilst better engaging students' personal needs and interests.
Whether you're looking for a friendly and highly knowledgeable guide to your guitar journey, or someone to help your child prepare for their daunting English exams, I look forward to hearing from you!
