I believe in catering lessons to the students, how much the student already knows, how much they can know, how quickly they can know it, ensuring that each lesson is dynamic and unique to each student to ensure they get the full and best experience out of the lesson is important. Within my experience teaching theory to begin with doesn't interest people! People want to make noise and make noises that others will recognise and that will be my goal, to get students playing songs they want to play, learning the techniques along the way and picking up on various bits of theory and scales as we progress. It is vitally important to me, as a guitarist and as a tutor to ensure that the student understands and enjoys the lesson. Ensuring that I am teaching and continue to teach at their level and if any support or advice is required that I can provide it, whenever I started playing guitar, I didn't take any lessons or guidance because any lessons that people delivered that I could find was all based on theory! And I didn't want to get stuck with all of the 'boring' aspects of guitar, I wanted to play songs and I wanted it to sound good and I think that's a very important thing for new guitarists, is ensuring they CAN meet that goal and will meet that goal with time and effort dedicated to achieving it. Taking pride in your learning is where it all begins.
