The trial lesson always consists of giving students a writing task to gauge their writing ability and proficiency. This is often a question taken from previous exams where I ask students to write 3 to 4 paragraphs addressing the question. After this, we have a conversation about their feelings, the weaknesses in their answers as well as the strengths they display. A few minutes are taken where we speak about their curriculum e.g. the exam board they are following as well as how long they would like lessons to be.
The second lesson is where we will whether to practice English Language or English Literature. From this, I will begin by spending the first half of the lesson teaching them how to apply analysis and structure in order to best put own to paper. The second half of the lesson also will consist of answering questions specifically tailored to the exam board they are following.
Homework is optional depending on the student’s workload, however if necessary I will set work that is relevant in improving certain weakness displayed by the student.
