Hello prospective students,
I have recently graduated from The University of Manchester with a Philosophy degree. However, I have studied English Literature up to A level and have gained experience teaching English Language at GCSE level since completing my studies.
Each of my lessons is carefully tailored to suit students' individual needs. For example, if you are weaker in a specific area such as grammar a couple of our lessons will focus on this in order to improve your skills in this particular area. Also, I like to make my lessons interactive to maintain focus and keep classes engaging. These activities include open discussions about texts, using flashcards and testing as we go along.
These techniques are proven more effective than reading and reciting alone as they require us to use our brains as we study increasing the likelihood that what we have learnt will be retained.
My approach to learning is challenging yet relaxed in the sense I believe making mistakes is part of the process of improving. In fact, having been through the process of studying myself, I have found that I am even more likely to remember something I am trying to learn if I have made mistakes and had to repeat an exercise a couple of times before I can retain what I have practised. In this sense, our weaknesses often become our strengths.
Overall, I enjoy teaching primarily as it is rewarding to observe students grow in confidence and achieve their goals. I look forward to working on your learning goals together!
