In my lessons I like to work with students rather than dictate to them. I will cater learning to the preferences of the individual. Tuition can be based practically based or focussed on theoretical elements, or both. I have many of my own resources on a wide range of musical topics, including things like key signatures and rhythm and harmonic and compositional areas, and am always creating more.
My belief is that learning is best applied to music that a student enjoys. As such I will always endeavour to make lessons musically rewarding and enjoyable.
My experience as a musician and teacher has helped me to become a skilled and versatile practitioner. I began learning to play classical guitar in primary school. Here I learned what it meant to have a talented music teacher and so stayed on with this teacher until going to music college years later. As well as performing as a classical guitarist, I branched out into blues and rock and performed in these genres. Later I developed an interest in jazz and more advanced harmony; now I do my own arrangements and compose for short films.
This versatility has served me very well when teaching. Students come to me wanting to study many different things and I am in a good position to help them. We can study basic or advanced theory, harmony, composition, analysis, arranging, performance, develop musical skills such as reading and improvisation.
Music is my great passion and I look forward to sharing it with the next generation.
