After I gather information on were the student is struggling or wishes help on , and finding out why they struggling, and their interests . I then tailor their lessons to meet the criteria of what they need to learn by using their interests to keep them engaged and learning. This is done by online live lessons and written work . In the online lesson it will be structured by a refresher of the previous lesson , learning the new information and then ending with the time to discuss any issues they have with the new information. Then simple activities to do before next lessons so I can assess how well they have taken in the new information . An example would be a maths lesson for a teenage student that is into cars .
Using visual aids on car themes to teach for example problem solving . Example question if car A is travelling at 30 miles per gallon and car b is travelling 35 miles pergallon both cars have 60 gallons in the tank how many miles would they both travel ? Then I break down the working out . So I would say car A is 30 miles so would be 30 x 60 . You would first multiply both 0 then add a 0 then 3x0 then 3x6 equalling 1,800 miles. Same process for car b 35x60 which equals 2100. I would then ask them what is the difference and wait for them to work it out . Which is 300 .
Then give them chance to ask questions or tell me anything they are struggling with and I go through it with them . Between lessons I will give a small assignment just to see how they manage on their own . Which I will go through in the next lesson and offer further learning if they are struggling still
