I am a native English and Mandarin speaker. I studied English Literature for A Levels and have a passion for creative writing and expression. I will teach my students not only how to communicated effectively and clearly with other English speakers, but also how to express themselves with the English language.
For lower and intermediate level students, I will teach them new vocabulary, grammar and idioms and show them how to use them in different situations. I will focus on British customs of communication and expose them to different accents to help better prepare second-language English speakers for living in the UK. Lessons will begin with a basic discussion and test to determine the student's level, and lessons will be tailored to the student's needs. As I am fluent in Mandarin, I'm especially suited to help Chinese students learn English. As someone with experience living in both Asia and the UK, in addition to language learning, I will also help students understand the culture of the UK.
For higher level English students, or English Literature students, I will guide them through the process of reading and analysing works of English Literature, both poetry and prose, using my English Literature education. I can help with essay writing and creative writing. I can help guide students through typical GCSE texts such as Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men', Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls' as well as A Level texts such as Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale' and Shakespeare's 'King Lear', all of which I have studied extensively.
