In our first lesson, we will go through a personalised checklist of the topics that you will need to learn about for your History GCSE exam. We will work through this checklist together deciding which topics you feel most and least confident about and use this to create a plan together of what we will focus the sessions that we have available on.

My lessons are broken up into three parts which include prior knowledge, new knowledge, and applying your knowledge to an exam question. The prior knowledge part includes completing a tailored 5 minute quiz with multiple choice questions that are based on the topic that we are looking at that lesson. We will then go over the results together and this will inform my understanding of how much new knowledge you are going to receive that lesson. For example, if you scored low on the quiz, we might need to spend longer going over common misconceptions, whereas if you scored high, we could spend more time on the third section applying the knowledge to exam questions.

I try to teach the second section (new knowledge) engaging so that you are able to memorise the information. This might include watching a short video that recreates a historical past or using primary sources like images of artefacts and writing to help engage you. You do not need to feel worried if you don't understand something, that is why I will be teaching you so that I can help you learn.

On the final part of the lesson, we will attempt to test your knowledge out in an exam question. The first few tutoring sessions will begin with shorter exam questions such as a 4 mark inference question, and as you start to gain confidence, we can move onto more difficult questions like an 8 mark how useful question or 16 mark how far do you agree. I have marked numerous Edexcel exam questions before and I will confidently be able to give you live feedback in the session to help you progress.
