I try to make learning fun and explain things in a clear and easy to understand manner. I will explain a concept to you and then we will practice it so that you have experience of using a language skill rather than just knowing about it. I feel that it is important to ensure that every element of English discussed is something that you will be able to use when you are interacting with others, whether in an academic setting or at work/with friends. I don't just want students to gain certificates, I want them to excel and to become confident in their language skills. I encourage you to bring any work from English courses or writing practice done at home so that we can go over it and I can assist you in the best way possible.

I have experience of Communication Support Work in an ESOL class, where I worked with students who used British Sign Language but whose first language was not English. As a result, I have learned how to explain English to people who are at varying levels of proficiency and I have had to work around the language barrier or not only the person being Deaf but also around the fact that their reading and writing English challenges would differ slightly to the rest of the class. I also did German at Open University, so I am aware of how rules in other languages can make English a very challenging subject for non-native speakers.

If you make mistakes, I will explain them so that you are able to improve your understanding of English. We will discuss where your weak points are and I will work with you to strengthen them. I always strive to find a learning style and plan that best fits around the student, as I understand that not everyone learns the same way. I am friendly, approachable and love the English language!
