GCSE English Language and Literature Expert tutor

Advert description
My passion for English language and Literature is reflected throughout my lessons and achievements. I am proud to say I have had many students who have excelled. Students who have worked with me typically improve three to four grades within as little as six months.

I have a broad knowledge of both disciplines as well as very detailed knowledge of my best texts and creative writing.

The exam boards I specialise in are:
 Eduquas/WJEC
 AQA

For many classic texts I have guided students through important aspects such as quote analysis, key themes, symbolism and importance of objects, characterisation, understanding literary conventions, historical, social, and political context and more.

My best and available texts:
 A Christmas Carol
 Macbeth
 The Tempest
 Romeo and Juliet
 Blood brothers
 Othello
 Silas Marner
 Animal farm
 Pride and prejudice
 Jane Eyre
 Twelfth night
 Great expectations
 The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
 Frankenstein
 Much Ado about nothing
 Anita and Me
 My name is Leon

All poetry is available.

For each text we will delve into key analysis literary features such as dramatic irony and specific writing conventions for example, a soliloquy in a play.

We will look at key features of poetry such as enjambment and types of poetry alongside its purpose.

The importance of writing and its impact in the broader world will be studied. For example, A Christmas Carol’s influence on attitudes towards poverty and charity in 19th century Britain.

For English language we will cover the broad and key aspects that a non-fiction text is based on such as language register, purpose and audience. We will also look at fictional writing and the importance of hooking the reader, how to structure your pieces and key elements to include.

Also, we will look at how to analyse quotations and apply key language features in your answer such as the use of a superlative adjective to enhance an idea. Grammatical work will also be featured such as sentence lengths and using the correct verb tenses.

All of the above will be supplemented with past papers and exam questions with an underlying focus on exam technique such as essay structure.

Weekly homework will be provided and marked accordingly which will include past papers.
