I work on the basis of weekly hour-long thematic sessions. Depending on my tutees' needs and goals, I rely on a variety of exercises ranging from reading comprehensions to creative writing tasks and debates to improve their grammar, spelling, vocabulary and written and oral expression. When I deem it necessary to strengthen a student's learning, I assign homework like short presentations. As my tutees gain in confidence and skill, I increase the level of difficulty of the topics and exercises tackled in order to keep them engaged and stimulated. I also provide monthly reports on the tutee's progress in our sessions. I select the topics of my sessions depending on the tutee's interests but also on the curriculum and current affairs, the objective being to encourage their curiosity and confidence.
For pupils preparing an exam, I start by recapping the methodology and giving my tutees tips and tricks to tackle the paper efficiently and successfully. Then, I move on to practice and go through past papers in order to get my tutees as comfortable as possible with the types of exercises they will encounter. I also support my tutees in their revisions by helping them develop the most appropriate personalised revision materials and methods.
