I believe in a student-led approach when it comes to tutoring. I know that students know much better than I do how they learn best, so we can tackle each lesson together to make English Language and Literature less daunting. I'll incorporate teaching methods that work well for students, whilst using tried and tested methods, such as close reading, practice questions and thematic discussions. I want to make each lesson approachable and fun, leaving students with a sense of confidence that we can build on each time.
I have previous experience of tutoring in Fiji, where I prepared and delivered workshops to the Fijian youth that lived in our village. English was not their first language, so I understand the power of communication and stimulating activities, as well as setting achievable lesson goals. I have delivered workshops on topics such as gender and racial equality, climate change and mental health, all whilst building upon the Fijian's grasp of the English language. This experience means that I know the challenges of language barriers and that I have the skills and experience to successfully overcome this, so we can learn from each other.
I have a first class degree from the University of Liverpool in English Literature and Politics, and I am currently studying for my Masters in Journalism. My academic life has revolved around being an effective communicator, whether that be in formal essays, presentations or group discussions. I have excelled in my use of the English language, and I look forward to helping both myself and students learn more.
