As a University student I have recently undertaken GCSE's and A-levels and know what is like from a students point of view both in terms of the difficulties many face , as well as in terms of understanding the specific skills needed many of which are very different from the skills needed in every day life but need to be understood for these exams.My lessons take a lot of focus on what the individual student needs.Students often have different issues , often very specific so I will work with the student to identify any struggles , alongside looking at past work they have done to identify where I am most able to help.Often though my lessons will focus on exam or question practice and structure, alongside going through mark schemes etc to pick up where content is not fully understood but also to understand key issues in essay structure or long question format.Due to both A-levels and GCSE's being centralised a key focus to pick up more marks is to understand what exactly the mark scheme is looking for and this is something Important I will teach to help pick up the additional marks needed.Ultimately therefore the lessons will focus initially on understanding the content.Then the focus will move to individual pieces of work and issues in applications of the content .I will also look at understanding of source questions particularly needed for both a-level and GCSE history and I will look at the skill set needed here.Ultimately having achieved 9 at GCSE history and A* at A-level I understand the way in which these mark schemes and questions work and this can help to develop these skills.
