I am an experienced tutor and I have also been tutored, so I know what it's like from both sides. I am passionate about English literature, and hope to help all my students excel in the subject. I usually create a powerpoint for my lessons, which are very clearly laid out and interactive. I study the text that my student is focusing on before the meeting, then I discern the 3-5 most important parts to understand it. Therefore, students are never overwhelmed with too much information. If a student is preparing for an exam, I look up the exam board and mark scheme, and do 1 practice paper per session in detail, focusing on a different text every time. I will then go away and mark it and bring it to the next session for ways to improve.
I think praise is just as important as telling students how to improve as it creates more enthusiasm and shows students that the lessons are working. During exam seasons, life can be stressful and students experience lots of pressure from various sources; I hope to ease this pressure with my lessons.
In schools, some teachers can make English lit seem so confusing, but I can help to simplify it, and make it much more enjoyable. There is so much more than just essays!
I have my usual methods of tutoring, but if a student learns better in a different way, then I will adapt. Everyone learns differently, and I feel as though I can decipher each individuals' needs well when it comes to this - whether that be visual learning, audio, reading and writing, associations, etc,.
