I am a painter and art teacher with a first-class degree in History of Art from UCL and a training in classical, nineteenth-century-style drawing and painting from the London Atelier of Representational Art. I will be starting my MA in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art in September 2023.
I have extensive experience teaching both children and adults in the contexts of both one-to-one tuition and full classes. I currently work at Hackney Fine Arts on Hackney City Farm where we teach children and adults drawing and painting techniques.
I teach both the technical side of drawing and painting, and also the broader elements of what ‘making art’ means. I can help with:
- learning to draw and paint realistically from life or from photos
- developing your ideas and building a project
- putting together a portfolio
- writing about your work
- using art history to contextualise your work
- oil painting techniques (from basics to advanced)
- colour theory
- …and much more!
I believe in supporting students to articulate and achieve specific goals and to support them in their general artistic development. If their goals relate to the technical side of drawing and painting, because of my training and experience, I can offer extremely in-depth guidance on this. But I am equally interested in and supportive of broader artistic and personal goals. For example, exploring an idea through an art project; learning to develop a regular practice of creativity; or pushing a pre-existing project or artwork to the next level. In our initial session we will set your goals together and work out a timeframe for either achieving them or working towards them. This is the beauty of one-to-one tuition as opposed to taking a class: the process is really catered to you.
