I like to teach in a way that is constantly engaging for my pupils. This means actively thinking about the issues at hand - instilling a genuine interest in the students so that they are not just memorising, but really learning and understanding.
This will take different forms - sometimes we will be talking about writing, other times we will focus on how to extract and pinpoint the important parts of whatever we are looking at, and much of our time will be spent in discussion - working on critical and evaluative thinking, as well as learning how to articulate and properly support our opinions.
I firmly believe that the likeliest route to success in academic performance is genuine interest in a subject; my most important job is (in my opinion) to try to inspire and show my pupils how interesting whatever we are looking at really is. This is what motivates us to revise and to work hard generally, and is therefore the key to academic success.
I offer tutoring in Philosophy, English, Music, and maths up to GCSE.
