I am a classically trained violinist and pianist, I hold a Masters degree in Music Performance and currently teach for a local music service, teaching in schools.
Lessons take place either online or in your own home (at no extra cost) and are usually on a weekly basis. We can discuss which books and approach you'd like to take with the lessons depending on the student's age, ability and goals. I am experienced in teaching children from the age of 6 up to adults, and of all abilities. The first few lessons for a beginner are usually focused on becoming familiar with the instrument (piano or violin), and the very basics of reading music. In our first lesson I will recommend a book which I think will be suitable, and this will form the basis of our lessons going forward.
Each week we will usually focus on one or two pages from a book, and then during the week I will ask you to work on what we have gone over in the lesson. In the following lesson we would go over what you have been working on to see the progress and then move on. (This structure is more for complete beginners).
The lessons are usually 30mins but can be longer if necessary eg. if the student is preparing for an upcoming exam or performance. Longer lessons would cost a little more.
The benefits of these private lessons verses instrument lessons in schools include being able to arrange the lessons at a time suitable for you, being able to get immediate feedback from myself after every lesson, and the ability to sit in and watch the lessons.
