My teaching methods are tailored to each student. When we first meet, I'll learn about your favourite bands, artists, and any songs that you'd love to be able to play. You can talk to me about your goals and ambitions, and I'll tell you how I plan to work towards that with you. These goals can change as lessons progress, and I'm always paying attention to you and the styles of playing that you're gravitating towards so that we can make sure that you're enjoying learning, and feeling that you're improving at all times. Nothing I teach is 'just because', everything has meaning, and everything has a purpose, and so it's important to break down larger goals into smaller goals so that students never get the feeling that they're being asked to do mindless homework, and can always see what each technique is building towards. I'm not just here to share my experience and expertise, I'm here to share your learning experience and guide you through both the easy and difficult times in your playing career. At its core, learning and teaching is a cooperative process, and there should be room for mutual learning and collaboration between the teacher and student, especially when I'm preparing guitarists for the industry and the real world, where they'll be learning from and working with other players to improve their craft. Hopefully all students will be able to share my passion for music, and recognise how learning an instrument can be the start of a new lifestyle for them.
