I have a generally relaxed approach based around first assessing the needs and wants of the childs, both attempting to assess their ability as well as the confidence they have in them. Lesson structure will then be built around these needs, likely including the targeting of specific exam technique and discussing ways in which to make the content more interesting and engaging and therefore more easily and readily digestible for the student. My previous experience includes tutoring 15-16 years olds in GCSE content (AQA specifically although this is easily altered) as well as guided reading with 11-14 year olds in order to work on active recall and comprehension skills.
