I instruct guitarists at all stages, up to the highest possible standards of music performance. Over the years, I have contributed guitar work to albums with some of the finest musicians on the planet, as well as some names you may have heard. I have also contributed guitar work in a live setting with said musicians.
The methods and fundamentals used in my teaching are based not on hearsay, nor on the dated aphorisms commonly peddled in the “classical” canon, but at the forefront of over 100 years of well-established models and research into motor learning, physics, biomechanics and neuroscience, cross-referenced with my repeated experience performing at a professional level. My instruction is based on what has been repeatedly demonstrated to produce results and long-term improvement in the real world.
I cannot sell you any quick “tips or tricks” that will immediately allow you to play the guitar fast, or to play cleanly, or to play anything you want on the instrument; no such thing exists. What I can promise you, however, is that:
- If you choose to dedicate the quality time to working with the tools and strategies I will equip you with in the lessons, you will see sustainable, consistent and concrete long-term improvements in the quality and execution of your guitar playing. While you may encounter roadblocks in the learning process, you will be equipped to understand and overcome these roadblocks when they occur.
- You will find that you become self-sufficient, and - if you choose to dedicate the quality time to developing the qualities and tools you will be given - are able to practice just as effectively, as well as in a much safer manner with less risk factors within 1-2 hours, as you would in 8 hours.
- There will be no aspect of the fundamentals or methods I teach or demonstrate that I cannot fully explain. You will understand not just the “how,” but “why” to do certain things, why they work, and why to do them over other things.
- Whether you play jazz, or rock, or heavy metal, or classical music, or any style in between, what you will be taught will apply universally and equally to the learning and practice of all styles.
- I teach music theory and strict counterpoint too! (ABRSM Grade 7-8 equivalent)
