My experience working in mainstream and SEN schools with students from 8-18 years old has given me a flexible and adaptable approach to tutoring. I understand that learners are unique, and the importance of differentiation in learning materials. The start of each new tutoring relationship will focus on getting an understanding of the learners needs to ensure future success.
I am particularly skilled at presenting complex information in a way that the learner will understand, making sure to move on to new concepts only when they are comfortable and caught up. This slower, more methodical approach is particularly useful to learners who feel like things move too fast in the classroom and that they are getting left behind.
I have tutored the core subjects up to GCSE level, and my students have gone on to achieve above and beyond their expectations. Having worked in schools alongside teachers, I am familiar with the national curriculum and the expectations when it comes to marking. I can help learners understand this, and I believe a key to academic success is clearly understanding what is specifically required of you in the curriculum.
Aside from concept learning and revision, I am passionate about helping overwhelmed or unengaged pupils rekindle their desire to learn. I have experience listening to and understanding the difficulties learners face at school, and have a qualification in counselling skills to help facilitate these conversations. I believe that this side of school life is just as important to get right as homework and grades, as it will set learners up for a lifetime of success and curiosity.
