I tailor my lessons to the particular needs, aptitudes, and learning styles of each student. Generally, my approach is student-focused and conversational, grounded in helping the student identify and use their own strengths to engage with the course material in a way that will be most successful for them. We focus on building transferable learning and problem-solving skills that will help them succeed in a range of subjects. We will take time to identify needs and goals during our first session together while continuing to adjust and adapt as new challenges arise. For different students I might gamify the subject matter, connect the subject matter to the student's interests, or adopt a more conversational approach based on the student's needs. I've worked successfully with a wide range of students from ages 8 to 18 and with a wide range of learning styles, needs, and interests. I am a patient teacher and compassionate listener who enjoys helping others find their strengths and succeed. My academic background is in geography, social sciences, and English literature but I have a wide range of work experience in communications, research, writing and editing as well, that I can draw from to work across a range of subject areas.
