My name is Assia Hamdi, and I am an MSc graduate with over ten years of tutoring, mentoring, and teaching experience. I have worked across various educational settings, including national and private centres, secondary schools, online platforms, and clients' homes. This breadth of experience has allowed me to refine a wide range of teaching skills that cater to the diverse needs of my students.
My teaching philosophy centres around the individuality of each student. I believe no two tutoring sessions should be alike, as I prioritise the specific needs, learning styles, and goals of each student. Whether I’m helping struggling students gain confidence or pushing high achievers to exceed their potential, I tailor every lesson to maximise confidence, engagement and success. During the pandemic, I participated in the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), where I supported disadvantaged students through in-person tutoring in secondary schools across London, creating tailored assessments and activities to strengthen their weak areas and encourage confidence. Through tailored and curriculum-focused skill teaching I was able to close learning gaps and rebuild their confidence in subjects like English and History.
Beyond supporting students who struggle academically, I’ve also worked with high-achieving students to help them maximise their potential through private tutoring. I have had the pleasure of tutoring students in interdisciplinary lessons which empowers the students to not only excel in their schoolwork but to start exploring their professional and academic interests through their everyday. My tutoring expertise also extends to more creative and non-traditional subjects. I have led workshops on alternative world history, social studies, creative writing, and even soft-science projects and dragons-den projects all of which are designed to spark curiosity and connect classroom learning to real-world interests. I strongly believe that by integrating students' hobbies and passions into the curriculum, we can make learning more engaging and meaningful. One of my most notable successes was during my time with MAT Recruitment, where I worked extensively with students preparing for their English Language GCSEs. These sessions were held remotely yet the majority of my students saw a 2-3 grade improvement. This was achieved by creating highly tailored lesson plans, practising exam techniques, and providing ongoing feedback to ensure steady progress.
In addition, I have experience supporting neurodivergent students and those with behavioural challenges in school settings and privately. In my role within schools, I’ve worked closely with SEN teams to develop individualised plans that accommodate students' specific needs. I’ve successfully used patience, creativity, and adaptability to ensure all my students feel supported and can reach their full potential. These intimate, one-on-one sessions were instrumental in producing detailed reports that SEN teams could utilise for continued support but also empowered students to see their capabilities and strengths, leading them to care about their own education.
