I love teaching music theory - I use many tried and tested ways of looking at music to make it easy to understand and remember. If you can remember that the Blanket Exploded And Dad Got Cold Feet, you will always know how many flats there are in a key signature and what order to put them. I specialise in taking the mystery out of music theory, and showing how logical and elegant it is. I also am passionate about making sure it then relates back to whatever practical music the student might be doing.
I prefer to work one to one, because everyone learns and understands differently. I need to be able to tailor my method, depending on whether the learner is visual, mathematical or verbal in their learning style. When online, I sit by my piano so I can demonstrate how the written music sounds, and will screen share videos to show examples of various time signatures, scales, chords etc.
In short, my goal is to make sure that in a short time, my students realise that the language of music is both accessible and beautiful. To help them have more understanding of the music they play, and to feel confident in composing and arranging their own music. And to make sure that all of this is enjoyable and interesting.
