Hello! I am an A-Level student currently studying English, Philosophy and History. I have previous experience tutoring for 11+, as well as for years higher up in secondary school, and am a Sixth Form Academic Mentor in my school, and am looking to tutor online in English from 11+ to GCSE level.

My style of lessons depend on school year: for 11+ entrance exam preparation, fun creative writing exercises, building impressive word and phrases banks, and consolidating SPAG and comprehension skills are usually what we spend most of the time doing.

For GCSEs, depending on what students need help on, we might either spend a session analysing in depth a poem, looking at themes, rhetorical and semantic devices, and syntactic construction, or planning essays for the themes of the selected prose text (novel), particularly examining context and period of literature and how this impacts the style and form of the prose (whether its modernist, realist, proto-modernist, etc.), applying again technical analysis. We might also do over technique for the Language papers, such as looking at what makes a good creative writing piece, or how to answer Language paper comprehension questions and mark schemes.
