I've been teaching Social Sciences for 20 years. I am most familiar with US Government & Politics, Economics, World History, and World Geography. I am comfortable with various levels of understanding; my classes have included regular, honors, & Advanced Placement (which, in the US, is a college level course where students can earn high school credit, and if they pass the AP EXam they may earn college credit, too). My students' pass rates have been as high as 91%, nearly double the national average!
My philosophy of learning includes that the learner take ownership of their learning, wherein my role is to guide and support the learner. Therefore, my tutor sessions are often student led, where the student requests specific areas of focus, questions regarding the material, or a test to review (this includes preparations for the AP EXam given towards the end of the course). From there I elaborate on material via discussion with the student(s), or we work through practice material, which is often selected response questions or essays. Frequently, I employ an amended Socratic Method and also prescribe specific study techniques for the student to practice independently. For example, a student wishing to gain proficiency in the Microeconomic concept of Supply & Demand, I would briefly review the causes for change in each. From there, I would supply real world scenarios that would require the student discern the determinant. Next, I would have the student graphically illustrate the change.
I look forward to assisting you achieve your target!
