I am a first year Medical student at Imperial College of London who achieved 9's and A*'s in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics A levels. I also scored 3200 in my UCAT (Top 1%) and was in the top 15% of BMAT candidates.

As a student, I understand the importance of learning and understanding content, and then going onto practice questions to consolidate this knowledge. I would use these two concepts to frame my lessons around my student and the topic they want to learn. I would explain a topic, or show them how to do a problem, then ask them to answer questions on that topic / similar problems, guiding them along the way if necessary. As a student myself, I think this is the most effective way to not just teach, but also engage students of all ages as they are always actively using their brains in either learning something, or answering questions.
