I am very flexible with my methods and I can teach both individual classes and groups. I prefer working with students to figure out what learning method works better for them. The teaching I have done so far at the University of Birmingham entailed students doing some predesignated reading and discussing it in class together. I strongly encourage critical thinking and inquisitiveness, and my top priority is for students to feel respected and comfortable.
I have so far taught modules on Medieval History, working on different cultures from all over Europe and Asia, and touching on numerous social issues that are of current concern and relevance. However, owing to my undergraduate background in History, I am qualified to provide lessons on many different historical periods, from Antiquity to Contemporary History. Furthermore, I always take time to answer questions and give tips regarding essay- and academic writing, from referencing and paragraph structure, to constructing and streamlining arguments.
My goal is threefold: firstly, to help school-age students navigate through their history homework as competently and confidently as possible, and to help mature students to enrich their historical knowledge. Secondly, to help students develop critical thinking and the ability to identify causes and effects in global human behaviour, skills that will prove very useful in careers in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and in the examinations that would admit them to courses relevant to said careers. Thirdly, to deepen their appreciation of their own and of other cultures and to sensitise them on diachronic social issues.
