Hi Helen,
Probability trees are a way of visualising different possible outcomes after more than one event. They are used a way of quickly accessing useful information in an organised format.
They are not strictly necessary for calculating probability, but they come highly recommended as a way of separating probabilistic information into easily read sections. See it more as a useful method than a necessity.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Dear Helen,
A probability tree diagram is used to represent the probability of occurrence of events without using complicated formulas.
It displays all the possible outcomes of an event. The purpose of a probability tree is that it shows all the possible outcomes of an event and calculates the probability of these outcomes.

A tree diagram lets users visualize possible outcomes and probabilities for a given situation. A probability tree diagram is a visual tool for organizing your thinking and making calculating probabilities much easier. It is a useful tool in statistics and probability for organizing and summarizing information, making it easier to analyze and interpret data. They provide a structured format to present data points, probabilities, outcomes, or events, which can help in quickly accessing and comparing different pieces of information.
While not strictly necessary for performing probability calculations, probability tables greatly enhance clarity and understanding, making it simpler to visualize distributions, compute cumulative probabilities, or analyze relationships between different random variables. They can also serve as a reference for standard distributions (like the normal or binomial distributions) and their corresponding probabilities. If would you like to know more about it can contact me for further exploration.

A tree diagram in probability is used to visually represent all the possible outcomes of a probability experiment. It helps in organizing the outcomes in a systematic way, showing how events are connected. Each branch of the tree represents a possible outcome, and the diagram can help calculate probabilities by multiplying the probabilities along the branches. It's especially useful for understanding complex problems involving multiple events or stage.

A tree diagram is used to visually represent all possible outcomes of a sequence of events in probability. It shows the structure of conditional probabilities or multiple stages of decision-making, making it easier to:
Calculate the probabilities of combined events.
Identify outcomes of events (e.g., success/failure, heads/tails).
Solve complex problems involving independent or dependent events systematically.

Hi Helen,
A tree diagram helps you see all the possible outcomes of an event step by step. Each branch shows a choice or result, and you can use it to calculate probabilities by multiplying along the branches. It’s especially helpful for more complicated problems, like when one event affects another.
You don’t always need a tree diagram, but it makes things easier to understand and solve when there are multiple steps or outcomes to consider.
For example, calculating probabilities:
Probabilities are assigned to each branch (e.g.,
𝑃(Heads) =0.5
P(Heads)=0.5,
𝑃(Tails) =0.5
P(Tails)=0.5).
To find the probability of combined events, you multiply probabilities along the branches.
Example: The probability of flipping Heads, then Tails is
0.5×0.5=0.25.

Trees are not the must if you can calculate the probability without it. But I recommend to use it. This method helps you to vizualize the real situation given in the task. There are a lot of tasks with complex situations where the probability of the next step depends on the previous one. Let me show you an example: 'The weather in the Middletown may be bad, normal or good. Going to the exam student can put on his favourite jacket with the probability 0,2; 08 and 0,3 respectively. Also he can sleep well before the exam with the probability 0,4. If he slept well and wears his favourite jacket he gets A. What's the probability of A mark? As you see there are 12 outcomes here. You can draw the tree diagram or think about each one and decide whether it is favorable. And you have to see in the text all the time to see digits. All the probabilities are shown at the diagram/ all you need is just to follow the chosen arrows

Yes. Tree diagrams provide a way to structure the information about two or more events. It shows every outcome of the events and will help you answer probability questions.
To effectively use a tree diagram, it's crucial to understand the probability of individual events occurring and the principle that probabilities on each branch set sum to 1.
How to use tree diagram to find probability
1. fill the probability on the branches
2.Identify which outcomes are required to answer the question
3. Determine the probability of these outcomes by multiplying the probabilities along the branches.
4. use the probability you have calculated to answer the question

Tree diagrams can be used to calculate probabilities of independent events or dependent events. Sometimes it is tricky to know what calculations to use when working out probabilities so tree diagrams can help with this. The probability of each branch is written on the branch. The outcome is written at the end of the branch. We multiply probabilities along the branches. We add probabilities down columns.

Tree diagram is a way of seeing the different pathways to find out the probability out of possible outcomes at the end of tree branch. The tree diagram stops when the lines are not drawn just like a branch of a tree reaching its full length. Each line will have a probability written as a decimal or a fraction to tell you the chance of getting a particular thing until the end

Tree diagrams are a really useful tool in probability because they help to clearly lay out all the possible outcomes of a situation, especially when there are multiple events happening. By organizing the possibilities in a visual way, they make it much easier to understand complex problems. For example, if you flip a coin twice, a tree diagram shows all the possible results, like heads-heads, heads-tails, tails-heads, and tails-tails. They also help when you're calculating the probability of multiple events happening together, by multiplying the probabilities along the branches. Additionally, tree diagrams are great for understanding conditional probability, where the outcome of one event affects the chances of the next. While you don’t always need tree diagrams to calculate probability, they make the process much clearer, especially when things get more complicated.

If you look at a tree diagram as a logical structure, where the outcome is 1, then all events below the outcome should total 1.
