Steve Jones

I taught across the primary age range for thirty-three years before retiring two years ago. The majority of my teaching career was in year six, although I have experience throughout the primary age range. I was the Maths leader for much of my career and I am a NCETM Maths Professional Lead Teacher. I have also led Science, English, History, PE and French. I spent ten years in leadership, and was Head or Acting Head of three different schools. Since retiring, I have spent much of my time as a cricket scorer, and as a writer, producing sports reports for my local newspaper.
I spent a year tutoring and mentoring Looked After Children between the ages of six and sixteen.
I would base my lessons around your interests and needs, adapting where necessary to your preferred learning styles. I try to make my lessons fun and interesting, whilst challenging but not threatening.
I feel that children learn best if they are relaxed but alert, and my experience tells me that many tutees need reassurance in order to build their confidence in a subject. I would aim to build their relationship with me in order to foster that reassurance, in order to create solid foundations for successful learning.
I like using games, quizzes and puzzles to enhance learning, whilst all the time making the learning seem real and relevant.
