A-Level Biology Success: Your Easy Guide to Mastering the Subject

Are you gearing up for A-level Biology and want to do your best? Here's a simple guide to help you succeed with ease!

Understanding the Purpose of a Biology A-Level

But first, you need to understand the purpose of a Biology A-level exam. They simply want to test your level at the end of high school. See if you were able to follow your class, be disciplined enough, be serious, and if you managed to integrate the different learning processes. It includes understanding a concept, the ability to read and extract scientific information from an article or graphics, and the ability to present and explain those concepts and information.

It can look pretty scary, but I assure you, once you focus on learning the concepts, the other graded parts come by themselves. Follow these tips, and you will get the grades you aim for.

Tips for Acing A-Level Biology

1. Know Your Syllabus: Get familiar with what you'll be studying. I like to break it into manageable parts and plan my study time.

2. Active Learning: Use tools like concept maps, flashcards, and practice questions. They make learning fun and help you remember better. You can sing, draw, and create memo-technics with subjects you master. The best way to memorise your lesson is actually to teach it. We will do a reverse class once you understand the concepts we will learn.

3. Practice Past Papers: Try old exam papers to understand the format and improve your time management. If your goal is to succeed in your exams, know that not all teachers are the same. The best way to get the best grade is to master the subject AND to understand what your teacher is looking for.

4. Ask for Help: Don't be shy! If you're stuck, we can go over concepts again and again.

5. Use Good Resources: Use textbooks, online videos, and interactive tools that suit your learning style. We will choose the right resources for you, depending on your level and goals. ALWAYS search for good, reliable resources in science. Scientific articles are acceptable, blogs...not so much if they don't quote reliable sources themselves.

6. Stay Organised: Keep your study space tidy, know your deadlines, and make a study schedule that works for you. A clean desk is a clean head to learn. Knowing your deadlines will help us organise the sessions so you arrive stress-free for your exams.

7. Review Regularly: Go over what you've learned often. Summarise, quiz yourself, or teach others to reinforce your knowledge. 1 Day-2 weeks rule: review what you study the same day, just reading is already 90% memorised; 2 weeks later, read it gain and teach it to someone else (me or your reflection in the mirror). We will schedule a few quizzes to stay up to date.

8. Stay Motivated: Set realistic goals and celebrate your progress. We will make sure we don't get overwhelmed but celebrate our small victories.

With these tips, you'll be ready to tackle A-level Biology confidently and get the grades you deserve!

To give you an example, I followed these tips and got 19,5/20 at my Biology A-level. It gave me the confidence to get into my Health and Biology degree, which I graduated with honours in Paris.

Our goal is to be confident enough for you to succeed independently in a year time!
